Social Networks and Death

I recently had an acquaintance die in a car accident. I had only met him a couple times, but from what I know he was a very good person with a lot ahead of him in life. It was a tragic and horrible incident thats difficult to digest.

I noticed something interesting looking at this person’s facebook page today. A ton (>100) people had made comments on his wall stating their remorse, saying they will miss him, and saying goodbye to their friend. I have seen this before on a friendster page of a person that passed away. It is interesting how this these social networking profiles live on and perhaps families and friends can find some comfort or support there.
